A married father of three is doing his bit to challenge gender stereotypes by rocking skirts and heels on a daily basis - and his massive following can't get enough of it.

Mark Bryan, who is American but currently lives in Germany, has racked up over 612,000 followers on Instagram by keeping them up to day with his outfits - which consist of traditional male clothing above the waist and skirts and high heels from the waist down.

While there is no item of clothing that is inherently male or female, Bryan uses his fashion choices to challenge the notion that certain pieces of clothing can only be worn by one gender.

He describes himself in his Instagram bio as a "straight, cis male, Porsche fan, loves wearing skirts & heels daily!"

The robotics engineer, 63, previously revealed that he wears a skirt and heels to work, as well as when he is visiting his local town, and even at home.

He told Bored Panda: "I dress like this because I can. Just to be different. I have always admired the women that wore tight skirts and heels.

"Not sexually, but the power they presented. I don't dress to be sexual, but to dress like any professional woman would. To me, clothes have no gender. I prefer skirts to dresses. Dresses don't allow me to mix the genders."

The American football coach revealed why he gravitates to heels and skirts, explaining: "[It's] all the fashion options. With men’s pants, you have just a few color options: black, gray, navy, and brown, and no pants with prints.

"With skirts, you can add reds, green, brighter blues, floral prints, animal prints, etc. Same with shoes, but then you also have many more styles and heel types. Plus you can wear open-toed shoes when the weather is nice."

While some may assume Bryan's fashion choices are tied to his sexuality, he believes that clothing should be desexualized entirely.

He explained: "I feel no different as to me, it’s just clothes. Naturally, on a cold or windy day, it physically feels different. When wearing heels, I feel taller, but also empowered for some reason.

"In all, maybe having the inner strength to have the confidence to wear non-conforming clothing has also given me the confidence and strength to handle my pressures at work."

Bryan also revealed that his family has been nothing but supportive of his unconventional choices of clothing, and his wife even gives him suggestions of what to wear, while his daughter is envious of his designer shoe collection and wishes she could borrow them.

He revealed that he prefers a "five-inch stiletto" for the way they make him look and feel but - like anyone that's rocked a stiletto knows all too well - he is not a fan of walking across cobbles or a sidewalk with large gaps between the pavers that the heels can sink into.

Bryan also previously revealed that he doesn't like wearing dresses, only skirts, so he can wear a shirt and tie from the waist up instead.

He also revealed that he receives a lot of messages from other men who have been inspired to experiment with their fashion choices after being scared to do so in the past.

Speaking to PurpleHaze, he explained: "It became more and more evident that what I was doing on Instagram was helping so many that wanted to wear non-gender conforming clothing but were afraid to have their sexuality questioned.

"I get over 100 direct messages a day on my Instagram account and a large number of them are followers that have thanked me for the courage to go out wearing something regardless of what others may think. Others still have this fear, however.

"This needs to change and thus has become one of my goals to de-sexualize clothing. But then I’m also helping everyone (regardless of sexual orientation or gender) that we all should feel comfortable wearing what we want."
