The day you tie the knot is meant to be the happiest of your life. An event that you'll remember until you're grey and old and look back fondly upon.
That's why so many couples fork out thousands on wedding photographers. They want momentos of the big day that can be passed down through the generations.
But one couple ended up with the snap of a lifetime after it was taken by a stranger on the Brooklyn Bridge.
Nevona Friedman, 26, from New York, snapped the stunning picture of the lockdown wedding while on a walk with her partner and later took to social media in a bid to track down the couple featured.
Posting the picture on Twitter on July 27, she wrote: "If you were getting married on the brooklyn [sic] bridge this evening, i've got some photos for you!"
Friedman was so determined to find the couple that she also tagged news organizations while posting the snap in the hope of reaching as many people as possible.
Tagging news anchors, she wrote: "Help me find them?"
And incredibly, Friedman's search was a success!
She updated the original thread, which has now gone viral, writing: "update!!! i found the bride and sent her my photos! and their love story is crazy! this is the only photo of their wedding. i'm not usually sappy but this is exactly what i needed right now. if any reporters want me to connect them, DM me!"
A mutual friend connected Friedman to the bride and groom who turned out to be Nikolina Kovalenko, a 32-year-old artist from Sunset Park, and her partner Stefan Ponova 30, from Romania, an electronics design engineer.
The pair had chosen to get married on July 27 as it was a special day for the pair, marking the one-year anniversary of the day they met while backpacking through South America.
However, because of the ongoing pandemic, the couple were only able to have a small intimate wedding with no photographer, which is what made this snap all the more special.
Watch a news report about the amazing story below:Friedman said she couldn't help but capture the special moment when she saw the couple tie the knot on the usually bustling Brooklyn Bridge, especially when she realized that there were no guests or photographer.
Per the Metro, the happy couple revealed that their first date was a 10-hour bus ride on a rough road in Colombia, which they spent talking, before exploring the small village of San Augustine together.
However, after three days together, the pair were separated, but Stefan then decided to book a ticket to join Friedman on her South American adventures, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
