A student mother was left with a gigantic bill after her son accidentally splurged on Spongebob Squarepants popsicles.

Four-year-old Noah Bryant, who hails from Brooklyn, New York City, is a big fan of the animated aquatic Nickelodeon character.

The young boy, who lives with autism, recently managed to log into his mother Jennifer Bryant's Amazon account and do some much-needed shopping of his own.

The child promptly ordered $2,618.85 worth of Spongebob-shaped popsicles, which were delivered to his aunt's house soon after.

Unfortunately, the little boy's gaffe has saddled his mother, who is a student at the NYU Silver School of Social Work, with a huge debt. Amazon is allegedly unwilling to accept a return on the frozen treats and is demanding payment from Bryant.

Bryant later took to her official Instagram account to share a picture of her young son eating one of the popsicles while standing on one of the large boxes stacked full of his special delivery.

She captioned the post: "@popsicle @spongebob Noah loves SpongeBob soooo much that he managed to purchase $2618.85 worth of SpongeBob popsicles from Amazon & had it sent to his Auntie houseWeary face.

"That equals to 51 cases, 918 popsicles. DID I MENTION THE NO RETURN POLICY? [sic]"

In a follow-up post in the comments, Jennifer mentioned that she attempted to sell the popsicles on Facebook, but added that there were simply too many and the vast majority of them melted.

A number of Twitter users have since reacted to the story of Noah and the popsicles, with one making a humorous image macro of the child:

Meanwhile, another person jokingly praised Noah's perceived business acumen, writing: "He's just getting into futures trading, this summer those popsicles will be worth more than that."

Another parent who had gone through a similar experience then wrote: "My autistic son spent $800 on virtual hay for a virtual horse in a game he was playing at age 7.

"It was my entire paycheck and the bank refunded it after I explained the situation. It's hilarious...now. [sic]"

Someone else then wrote: "My little brother (4) just spent upwards of $3k on Talking Tom coins because he would play the game on a phone/tablet connected to my parent’s gmail which did have some billing information saved.

"The real shock here is that a children’s game would allow in-app purchases of $100+ [sic]"

Finally, this Twitter user was simply shocked by the cost, writing: "What I found shocking is that it only bought 918 popsicles. That's nearly $3 a popsicle. What is the world coming to?"

But what could be perceived as a sad story, actually has a happy ending. Bryant's friend from college, Katie Schloss, heard about her plight and launched a GoFundMe to help pay off the debt.

The fundraiser's description states: "Amazon will not take back the popsicles, and Ms. Bryant, mom to [three] boys, doesn't know how she's going to be able to pay this off, in addition to student loans and all of her family's other expenses. [sic]"

Katie's fundraiser paid off big time; raising over $16,000 out of its original goal of $2,619 at the time of writing.

Jennifer later took to the comments to state that the remaining cash raised will go towards Noah's future education and added: "Thank you SO much for your mind-blowing generosity and support. We cannot thank you enough. Truly. [sic]"
