A teacher has shocked users after claiming that she was paid $116 extra after her school charged a mother for being late for picking up their child.

While some schools have their individual rules for parents who are late in picking up their kids, it seems like one school, in particular, has apparently chosen to hand out fines.

In a recent TikTok video, a teacher named Kristin Evans - who goes by the handle @mrs._evans - was evidently stunned after being handed a chunk of cash from her director.

She alleged in the clip that the school she works for is working to limit parents/guardians who fail to pick up their children on time by introducing the penalty.

Watch Evans' video below:

In Evans' video, she said: "The director of my school just walked up to me and handed me $116," showing the dollar bills she had just been given.

The teacher claimed that her superior gave her the money because one of her "half-day students" was picked up by their parents "almost an hour" past their pickup time.

"We get paid $2 a minute for every minute that they're late. So this parent was charged $2 a minute for being late and it goes directly to my pocket," she added.

In the caption of the video, Evans further explained that she feels "weird" because the alleged incident was the first time in her teaching career that such a policy had been introduced.

"During my 10+ years in public education, I regularly waited 20-30 mins after school with students waiting for parent pick up," Evans noted.

"This late pick-up policy is in my new school's admission agreement," she continued, clarifying that she now works in a private school instead of a public one.

"This also is not the first or second or third time they've been 20+ mins late without notice or communication but this was the first time they were charged the late pick-up fee," she concluded.

As of the time of writing, the video amassed 6.2 million views and 684.5K likes on the social media platform, with many users feeling divided over the clip.

Some people agreed that the teacher should be compensated for their time and were impressed with the school. One user wrote: "That’s awesome you actually get it! I feel like some schools would keep it."

Meanwhile, others weren't comfortable with the fine and thought about how it could affect the parent.

One user shared their own experience and wrote: "I can remember crying because I was stuck in traffic, couldn’t get to child’s daycare before it closed or afford the fine & they called police."

A second user chimed in and commented: "Yeah I couldn't morally keep that money I'd have to return it to the parents."

A third user noted: "Imagine that mom like freaking out rushing to get there high anxiety and then you get there and it’s like fork over $116 not a good day for that mom."

So what do you guys think? Should the teacher be compensated or is it unnecessary because some parents try their best in picking up their children on time?
