TikTok star Cooper Noriega dies at 19 - hours after social media post about dying young

TikTok star Cooper Noriega has died at the age of 19, mere hours after uploading an eerie video about dying young.

Noriega, who went by the handle @coopernoriega, boasted 2 million followers and had more than 100 million likes on the social media platform.

According to TMZ, which noted law enforcement sources, a passerby called 911 after finding the TikTok star unconscious in a mall parking lot outside Los Angeles on June 9.

Paramedics arrived on the scene shortly but were unable to revive the young star. TMZ reports that no foul play is suspected and an autopsy will be performed.

The tragic news broke just hours after Noriega posted a video of himself lying in bed with the caption: "who else b thinking they gon d!€ young af."

Per People, a Los Angeles Medical Examiner-Coroner spokesperson said that the cause of his death has been deferred, meaning: "After an autopsy, a cause of death has not been determined and the medical examiner is requesting more investigation."

"Once the tests/studies come back, the doctor evaluates the case again and makes the cause of death determination," the spokesperson added.

Noriega had been open about his struggles with mental health and addiction on social media.

Four days before his death, Noriega announced that he was creating a Discord server dedicated to discussing mental health and invited his followers to join.

"If you're really into getting your emotions out, or whatever, come join," he said in a TikTok video. "I created [the server] because of how much I love you guys and how much I struggle with it myself."

"I’ve been struggling with addiction since I was 9 years old, you may think that’s crazy but that’s the life I’ve been dealt," he wrote in a separate post on Instagram. "I would like to use the influence I've been given to create a space built on spreading awareness and normalizing talking about mental illness."

He continued: "My goal is to eventually open a rehab where people aren't traumatized at the end of their recovery, and where the staff meetings are trusted people."

"One of the many things I've [learned] while struggling with addiction was that surrounding yourself with negative people will only bring you down."

Noriega concluded: "For that reason, this discord is meant to bring us all together and create a safe space where people can vent and help others through their tough times."

Most recently, the content creator appeared on the June 1 episode of the Barstool BFFs podcast with Dave Portnoy, Josh Richards, and Bri Chickenfry.

"Devastating news," the show wrote on Twitter. "RIP Cooper Noriega. Life is fragile. Enjoy every minute."
