TikTok users have been slammed for faking a marriage proposal in a bid to get free drinks.
TikToker Shelbi posted a video of the stunt earlier this year, which she accompanied with the caption: "Your sign to have a fake proposal with a random guy you meet at the bar."
The video opens in a venue and zones in on a couple standing by the bar before the man gets down on one knee, causing onlookers to assume he is proposing and start cheering and clapping.
Watch the fake marriage proposal below:While on the surface, it could have been a genuine proposal video with strangers simply being happy to celebrate with the couple, the caption revealed the truth.
Shelbi provided additional information about the stunt, explaining that she'd met her "fiancé" the night before at Texas Live and that's where they'd hotched their fake proposal plan.
She later wrote after the event that she "didn't even know got so hype [sic] about it and made it so fun."
In the TikTok, people can be seen raising their glasses to the seemingly newly-engaged couple, and the bar staff immediately begin to celebrate the occasion too, with the TikTok caption explaining that the group "got free drinks for the rest of the night."

However, after the TikTok was posted, it was later reposted on Reddit's "trashy" forum, where a user made it very clear that they thought the whole thing was in very bad taste.
Reacting to the TikTok, one Redditor wrote: "Smart yes. Trashy maybe."
A second agreed, writing: "Trashy or brilliant? We may never know."
However, not everyone was so critical of the TikToker, writing: "Not trashy. People do this all the time to get free drinks and food."
A second added: "Trashy? More like good job who likes to pay for overpriced [sic] under poured drinks lol."
A third agreed, writing: "If anything they made the night more fun for everyone there!"
What do you think of the stunt? Trashy or a clever way to get free drinks?
