A woman has taken to social media to share apicture of a $6 bacon sandwich her friend was served on a Ryanair flight.

In a post made to her 14,000 followers on Twitter, Liz Nugent posted an image of the lunch her friend Aimee had recently been subjected to.

This so-called sandwich apparently consisted of an ungarnished baguette, sliced cleanly in half, and adorned with two small pieces of bacon.

In a since-deleted tweet, the Dublin-based writer took the Irish airline to task for their substandard catering, writing:

"My pal @AimeeWoods21 paid [5.5o Euros] for this 'bacon sandwich' @Ryanair today. I'm trying to figure out if it qualifies."

Nugent's post clearly outraged a number of other Twitter users, who promptly took to the comments to share their own thoughts on the state of the meal.

One person wrote in disbelief: "This cannot be real."

A second critic was even less impressed, dubbing the picture: "World's saddest looking sandwich."

Another added: "OMG, what a pathetic bacon sandwich! And that costed £5!! Ryanair should be ashamed to offer passengers that for £5. Even it was free, it would still be pathetic! I only once flew on Ryanair. Never again! [sic]"

While a fourth wrote: "From what I remember of Ryanair I'm surprised it wasn't 20 EUR, covered in mold and delivered with a punch to the face (attracting a mandatory additional fee) [sic]"

Another added: "It's like a thought experiment in how far the concept of 'bacon sandwich' can be whittled down before the thing falls apart. I'm enjoying Ryanair's new role as avante garde philosophers."

According to The Sun, Woods herself later commented on the sandwich in question, stating that she had "a lovely flight and the cabin crew were class."

She added: "I just found the sandwich humorous and slightly overpriced. Still ate it though! I doubt people will book a flight based on the quality of a sandwich to be fair!"
