Traveling is an exciting adventure, but the logistics of flying often come with their fair share of challenges - especially when it comes to luggage.
One common trend among passengers is wrapping suitcases in plastic for protection or easy identification.
However, according to baggage handlers and travel experts, this practice might be doing more harm than good.

Baggage handler Adrian, who goes by the handle @teh_deagz on TikTok, recently shared an eye-opening video on the platform.
The clip, which has amassed 8.3 million views, shows a plastic-wrapped suitcase being sent down a separate ramp at the airport.
Watch the video below:"Dear travelers," Adrian wrote on the video’s overlay, as he filmed seeing strange sights at work -- such as a massive frozen fish wrapped in plastic making its way through baggage handling.
Despite the man's warning about plastic wraps, many travelers jumped to defend the practice in the comments section.
"Ppl wrap them so they don’t get destroyed for this exact reason," one person slammed. "Putting plastic wrap is smart if you don't want to get your stuff stolen," another said.
A third shared: "Did not wrap it 1 time and it was open and things were stolen. I wrap it every damn time now," and a fourth added: "After seeing how you guys kick and treat the cases I will be wrapping them even more."
While the idea of wrapping luggage may feel like an added layer of protection, experts argue that it’s largely unnecessary.

According to Travel & Leisure, wrapping bags in plastic doesn’t provide enough benefits to justify the extra cost. Instead, they recommend investing in a durable suitcase with a TSA-approved lock for security.
"This way, if your suitcase needs to be opened for whatever reason, they can do so easily. The only real benefit wrapping your bag could offer is protection against regular wear and tear, and this is only a real concern if you want to keep your suitcase looking brand-new. Otherwise, stick with a TSA-approved lock and enjoy your summer travels," the outlet explained.
In a report from The Sun, some people argued that covering your suitcase with plastic impacts the environment.
"You buy luggage that can take a few knocks. The plastic is an environmental shame on anyone who does in my opinion," one user said. "Take personal responsibility and don't do it!" A second added: "You are consuming lots of plastic which is thrown away right after the trip."
