For months this year many of us were largely confined to our own homes and thus had to find new and innovative ways of keeping ourselves amused during lockdown.

A great many people took up baking, producing sourdough loaves and banana breads with alacrity and in quite alarming volumes. Others took to online fitness regimes, yoga mats laid out on living room floors all over the world as the latest fitness YouTuber blasted their way through an improbably difficult HIIT routine.

Personally speaking, I decided to try my hand at gardening - a regrettable and time-consuming pursuit that lead to nothing more impressive than a wilting flowerbed and several frustrating afternoons spent shouting about composting soil.

Over the summer months, though, things have started to open back up again for some of us. With pubs and restaurants opening in England, many people were able to get back into some semblance of a social routine, and with holiday companies beginning to operate again, some have even managed to enjoy a holiday abroad this summer.

If you're looking for inspiration (perhaps for next year's big trip) then you might be interested to learn about these stunning hotel rooms, which boast incredible views of the world's largest coral reef system - the Great Barrier Reef.

Check out some pictures of the incredible rooms from travel blogger alovelyplanet on Instagram:

Offered by marine tourism agency Cruise Whitsundays, Reefsuites is the very first underwater accommodation based at the Great Barrier Reef.

An enticing description on the agency's website reads;

"Spend a magical night in Australia’s first underwater accommodation and have a front row seat to the dazzling underwater world of the Great Barrier Reef. Be prepared for an intimate experience that will stay with you forever."

Moored offshore at Hardy Reef, which is located 40 nautical miles from Airlie Beach is Reefworld, under which sit the luxurious suites, surely boasting some of the most striking and beautiful views of any hotel room in the world.

"Watch a stunning sunset with a drink in hand before enjoying a starlit long-table dinner on the pontoon’s upper deck. After dinner, Reefsuite guests can retreat to the privacy of their undersea accommodation. Sit back, relax and watch as the reef comes to life through the floor to ceiling windows." A further description reads.

If this sounds like your cup of tea, then you can find out more by visiting the Cruise Whitsundays website.
