One waiter has started a debate after they refused to put candles on a customer's birthday cake.
The server's controversial decision was captured on camera by the customer in a clip they have since posted to TikTok.
In the video - which was shared last month by @lifeofperveen - two women can be seen sitting at the restaurant, getting their coffee and dessert.
As the waiter sets down their plates, one of the diners asks if they could get a candle on the cake to celebrate their friend's birthday.
"It's also her birthday so we were wondering if you have any candles?" she asked.
Check out the video right here:However, to her surprise, the waiter would not even entertain the request. "No, I don’t really have time for that right now, sorry," he replied.
The two women are clearly a little taken aback - but they don't push the issue. Instead, they can be heard saying "makes sense" and "yeah you're good."
Perveen shared the clip with the caption: "We cared enough to celebrate your birthday." The waiter's answer caught viewers' attention, and it wasn't long before the TikTok had racked up over 180,600 views.
Meanwhile, many people were so surprised by the way he responded to the simple request that they took to the comments section to discuss it.
"L waiter. Come on bro, it’s her birthday," wrote one user, while another added: "It's quite literally his job to get her what she wants how does he not have time."
Other users were quick to point out that the waiter had kissed goodbye to any potential tip with his rude response.
"Lol there goes your tip dude," wrote one user, while another commented: "As a server, I hope you didn't tip," and a third joked they "should have left him a note saying 'sorry, don't really have money for tips'."
However, others were more forgiving of the waiter's reaction and couldn't see what all the fuss was about.
"I understand the waiter sometimes the place is too busy to give special attention to people," commented one person, while another agreed, writing: "Y'all hella mad at the waiter like calm down."
