A female server recently took to her TikTok account to test a theory that waitresses can make more in tips if they don a pair of pigtails. And the response to her video has been divided, to say the least.
In a video, posted earlier this month, Bella Woodard told her 84,000 followers: "Okay, so, I saw this TikTok about this girl, she’s a waitress and I’m a waitress, and how she gets more tips when her hair’s in pigtails, for some weird, crazy reason."
The 21-year-old content creator, who had been wearing her hair down at the start of the minute-long clip, then divides her blonde tresses into two sections and gives herself a couple of pigtails.
"Okay I literally look insane right now so I’m gonna braid these pieces, and if this works I’m just gonna say like that is so weird and gross, but I’m down for more tips — so it doesn’t matter," Woodard says in the video, which has since racked up more than 5 million views.
Check out the video below:The video then cuts to the waitress after she has completed her shift, in which Woodard confirms that the hair-related hack really does work.
"Y’all were not lying," the waitress said. "I got a $135 tip by one guy tonight. Wear pigtails to work, I’m about to be doing this every day."
Needless to say, the response to her experiment was a mixed bag, with one user commenting: "This is really sad."

Another added: "It’s all fun and games until the old men start harassing you and giving you their business cards to call them 17 year old me was not ready for that."

However, the TikToker also received an influx of supportive comments, with many users sharing their own similar experiences.
One person shared: "Omg yes i get so many compliments from my tables when i do pigtails."

Another remarked that Woodard was merely making the best out of a bad situation, writing: "Ask not what you can do for the patriarchy, but what the patriarchy can do for you."
