A woman said she was denied service at a nail salon simply due to her weight.
Per Wach Fox 57, Ashley Cheffen had been a regular patron at POSH Nail Spa II in Columbia, South Carolina since re-locating to the neighborhood in 2018 - and never previously had any issue with staff at the establishment.
So when she went in for a pedicure on June 18, she didn't expect to encounter any problems, she told the outlet.
Ashley recalled sitting down in the spa as usual as the nail technician started working on her feet.
However, in the middle of toenail prep, the unnamed nail technician suddenly left his customer to her own devices.
It was then that a receptionist approached the unwitting client and explained the situation to her.
"She said ma'am, unfortunately, he's not going to be able to continue your services," Ashley told Wach Fox 57."We're not going to be able to finish your pedicure because of the weight limit of care."
Per the outlet, the company's policy stipulates that it's the customer's responsibility if a spa chair malfunctions in the event that said customer weighs over 300 pounds.
However, it does not state anything with regards to refusal of service due to an individual's weight - only in the event that a customer is causing a disruption in the business.

Ashley went on to say: "I left, I sat in my car, and I kind of just had a moment. I was embarrassed, I was humiliated and I felt horrible. That’s outrageous. She should sue the salon."
Needless to say, the alleged decision by the nail salon to deny Ashley service due to her size has sparked outrage online.
One person commented: "I don't understand how her weight could [have] been an issue when she has been going there for years.
"It also said that the weight limit on the chairs is 300lbs and that anyone weighing this or over is liable for any malfunctions of the chair. So her being told that they can't do her nails because of her weight is totally wrong. I feel so sorry for her."

Another added: "Why start the pedicure if you aren’t going to complete it? You can obviously see her size when she walks in so shouldn’t have started and then kicked her out making her feel worse."
A final person chimed in: "I'm sorry you've had to put up with this best thing to do is find a nice salon with kind people and don't let it get to you. [sic]"
