A woman has claimed that she was made to wait outside of a garage while mechanics serviced her car due to staff finding her outfit "inappropriate".

Taking to social media to share her story, TikTok user Tia Wood claimed that after she had taken her car to be inspected at an undisclosed garage, a female member of staff had informed her that Wood could not wait in the customer waiting area due to the outfit she was wearing.

Instead, the staff member allegedly asked Wood to walk around the back of the facility and wait outside.

She captioned the original post: "DIDNT KNOW GETTING UR CAR INSPECTED HAD A DRESS CODE!!!!!! [sic]"

Over a video of her amusing herself outside of the garage, Wood wrote: "was told to wait outside the inspection station because my shirt was too [inappropriate]".

In the post, Wood's outfit consists of a pair of white sneakers, blue denim shorts, and a red crop top. In a later video, she does admit that her top was "short" but was "nothing crazy".

Since sharing the original video three days ago, it has since amassed over 1.3 million views on the platform, with many other TikTok users divided on who was in the right.

One person commented: "It does look like a bathing suit top but damn there's no dress code to sit in the waiting area."

However, another TikTok user replied: "I'm surprised they didn't just refuse service."

In a follow-up video, Wood can be seen calling the company's helpline and asking the operator if there's a dress code she needs to adhere to if she's taking her vehicle to be inspected. In response, the operator responds: "No, ma'am, we don't have a certain dress code - you're just still required to wear your face covering."

After explaining the situation, Wood did receive an apology and was told that neither the operator nor her manager had ever heard of a situation like hers before.

Wood later clarified that she did not want the staff member at the garage to lose her job, but that she does want her to be informed that what she did was "rude".
