A woman has revealed the reason why she allowed her husband to sleep with her bridesmaid on their wedding night.

Katey is a 26-year-old woman from Plymouth in the United Kingdom and tied the knot with her boyfriend Dan, who is 25, in an intimate event in Devon in September.

While the process seemed to be your standard commitment ceremony, the wedding night was anything but conventional, as one of the bridesmaids ended up in the bridal suite with them - and it caused a bit of a rift with the bride's family.

Katey has now explained exactly why she was alright with her new husband sleeping with another woman on their wedding day as the couple opened up about their unconventional setup on an episode of Truly's Love Don't Judge, a show that spotlights bizarre relationship stories.

Watch the episode below:

Speaking on the series, Katey shared that she and her spouse had met another couple who introduced them to the idea of open relationships. From there, the pair started getting acquainted with the idea before they started exploring it with others.

After officially getting married, Katey, who wanted to explore her bisexuality, recalled the moment the couple had asked one of the bridesmaids to join them in their bedroom on their wedding night.

"We ended up taking one of my girlfriends up to our bedroom. We had some drinks and ended up having a threesome with her and it was really fun," she said during the episode. "She's one of my best friends so it was very comfortable."

"To do it on such a special day just makes it so memorable," Dan added of the unique experience.

At first, the pair struggled to see each other being intimate with others - but it quickly became a non-issue as Dan noted: "The jealousy is kind of part of it, it makes things more exciting."

Furthermore, Katey and Dan reconnect with Kirsty and Tom, whom they first met when appearing on Channel 4's Open House: The Great Sex Experiment, in the episode.

Reflecting on their relationship, Tom said: "It's just a normal friendship, like any other friendship - even though we share wives and stuff. If you enjoy a bar of chocolate, are you just going to have one bar of chocolate your whole life and that is it?"

Elsewhere in the series, Katey explained how her relationship with her family has been put under tremendous strain after they found out about what went down in the bedroom.

They branded her and Dan as "friends with benefits" and refused to attend the wedding and show support for the open couple.

"I think a lot of the judgment I received has been from my family. They disapproved of what I was doing and they don't really speak to me anymore because of it," she said, adding they found their actions "disgusting" and concluded that her husband was to blame.

Despite not having her family present on her special day, Katey expressed that she was delighted to be surrounded by people who accept her and her husband for who they are.
