A woman has taken to TikTok to reveal how her head "exploded" mid-flight due to changing air pressure.
TikToker Weronika (who goes by @polish_99 on the platform) shared the terrifying story in a series of videos that have racked up millions of views between them.
The first clip has gained a whopping 5.5 million views and features Weronika wearing a head brace with a bruised face. A caption reads: "POV: you're the flight attendant that I've just had to inform the back of my head exploded from the pressure."
"Still not over how gross it was," she added.
Watch the video below:People were so shocked by the clip that Weronika had to tell the whole story in a series of follow-up videos.
She began by explaining that no one was to blame for the accident - and that when she said "exploded", she meant that the stitches from her recent surgery had burst open.
Weronika added that the surgeon who carried out her "cat eye" surgery had given her the green light to fly, as had another doctor at the airport.
However, once they got up in the air things turned nasty.
She explained: "We were on the plane, everything's chill, we'd gone to sleep because we'd been traveling since 2:00AM and I wake up and I'm in a lot of pain."
"I can feel pain all around here [behind her left ear], like my actual ear was in pain as well and I was like, 'How is that possible? I can't even feel my ears yet,'" she continued, adding: "Everything was really hurting, I got up, went to the toilet and I heard this audible pop."
It was at that moment that Weronika realized that the stitches behind her ear had come out. "Immediately after I felt this hot liquid dripping down my neck and I grabbed some towels and started wiping it up," she recalled.
"Obviously it was blood but, I don't know if anyone's had lipo, the fluid that comes out of you is like yellowy with blood and bits," the TikToker added.
"I'm assuming the reason that it happened is because I had a drain behind my ear," she explained, adding: "So this is obviously where most fluid would accumulate after surgery."
"When I got on the plane, it swelled up to the extent that the skin was pulling apart," she said.
Weronika went on to describe how she had to spend the rest of the flight pressing towels against her ear to try to stop the blood from leaking out. Thankfully, doctors were able to restitch the wound when she landed, and her healing is now back on track.
While it may have been a terrifying experience, the TikToker stressed that no one was at fault - and that the doctors were right to give her a fit to fly certificate.
"No one made any mistake, the original surgeon or the airport doctor at the hospital. Everything was fine when I got on the plane," she said, adding: "I have unusually soft tissue and swell more than the average person which led to some of the stitches coming open on the plane in one tiny area."
