A woman has shared a chilling story of a time a maintenance man who was doing work in her apartment building, allegedly tried to break into her home.
Bee, a 36-year-old from Louisiana, recounted the bizarre story to BuzzFeed. She told the outlet that around 7:30 AM, work was being carried out in the neighboring units.
She later received a message from one of the workers, which simply read: "How [you] doing?"
Bee initially thought he was messaging to inform her that he might need access to her apartment to carry out some works.
So, she responded: "I'm alright. Are you about to tell me you need to come to the apartment?"
However, the nature of his message was evidently not work-related as he then replied: "Yes just [to] see [your] face."
The man added: "I miss [you]."
At a loss for words, Bee simply wrote back: "Oh lol."
Then in three separate messages, the maintenance man wrote: "Yeah can I come in?"
To which Bee responded: "No sir."
In an interview with BuzzFeed, Bee explained: "When I responded 'oh lol,' it was the same as an in real life nervous chuckle. I literally did not know how else to respond to that kind of message from a person I was not interested in. Even the nicest person can be harmful."
But despite her clear discomfort in the situation, the man persisted, arguing that he should be let in "coz I'm here" before sending her a laughing emoji.
He then creepily tells the lone woman: "I'm coming in".
Despite Bee warning him not to do it, the man tells her that he has "just opened [the door]" adding another laughing emoji.
Even after she tells him that she will call the police on him, he sends yet another laughing emoji, before telling her: "I'm in the [next] apartment."
He then tells her to "stop tripping".
"Got [you]," he writes and then adds: "Hope everything is fine".
Bee explained to BuzzFeed that she broke the lease a month later and blocked the man. "I felt unsafe, [so] I moved as soon as I had the resources to do so," she said.
