Yet another debate about tipping culture is raging as a woman refused to leave a tip after paying $17 for a smoothie, which seems excessive anyway.
Tipping is always a divisive subject, with some believing that it should be commonplace in society while others believe it should be the duty of the employer to pay a wage where servers don't have to rely on tips.
That being said, with the subject seeming to split opinion, the debate will rage further as those who don't believe in tipping culture will protest by simply not giving their server a tip.
Another video has reignited the debate after a woman refused to tip after purchasing a smoothie for $17, which is another conversation in itself.
Angie took to TikTok (@LuckyAngie) where she explained to her followers: "Just paid $17 for a smoothie and an extra $1.35 for a stevia packet and they had the audacity to ask me if I wanted to tip. Um ma'am I'm all cleaned out today."
Captioning the video "tipping culture needs to chill," the clip has amassed over 485,000 views at the time of writing with people flooding the comments with their opinions.
"If you can afford a $17 smoothie you can afford to leave a $1 tip," one user wrote, with a second adding: "Can't afford to tip? don't have others prepare your food for you, especially not a smoothie you could make at home."

Others supported Angie, with someone writing: "So many people are missing the point. Focus on better wages, then you won’t need tips. Other countries don’t tip, because [they] pay proper wages instead."

A fourth added: "Tipping is not mandatory it’s optional. Once some of you get that through your heads you won’t be in ur [sic] feelings if they leave $0."

In amongst the chaos of people debating tipping culture, someone else raised the point: "I don’t think tipping needs to chill out, I think a smoothie being $17 is the outrageous thing here."
That seems like a reasonable point but did nothing to answer the debate at hand. Lots of people believe that employers should pay a fair wage, but on the other hand, until that is in place, servers will rely on tips to live.
It's certainly a tricky topic!
