A woman who has had to walk three miles to work each day for the last year after her car broke down has now been gifted a new vehicle after stumbling across $15,000 - and returning it!

Diane Gordon, 65, travels to and from work five days a week, but last February her journey got even harder when she lost the use of her car.

Little did she know, walking home from work would cause her to find something most of us can only ever dream of - a massive bag of cash.

Gordon stopped at a gas station to warm up and get out of the snow on the way home on January 21, when she noticed something peculiar lying on the ground.

Speaking to Fox News affiliate WJBK, Gordon said: "I looked down on the ground and found a plastic bag with a large sum of money in it. When you turned it over there was even more money."

Showing more restraint than many would in that situation, and showcasing that she is a good person, she decided to hand over the money to the police.

"Inside the bag were also wedding cards, these were gifts from a wedding that occurred that day," Lt. Matthew Ivory told the outlet. "I think it was $14,780 worth of cash."

Gordon revealed that she is unable to get to her grandkid's sporting events due to the lack of transportation, and that simply driving over to see her family isn't an option.

Even though she was in need of the money, the grandmother never had any other thoughts than to turn the money over, and now her good deed is being repaid.

Ivory revealed that one of the officer's wives had started a GoFundMe page for Gordon in order to raise money to buy her a new car.

The page outlines the details of the day, before explaining that all money raised will be used in partnership with Szott Automotive to get Gordon a new car.

Clearly, seeing such a selfless act struck a chord with a large number of people, as at the time of writing $81,945 has been raised for the 65-year-old from 2900 donations.

Fox caught up with Gordon after the money was used to buy the grandmother a brand new Jeep, and a clip shows how overjoyed she was.

"I am floored," Gordon told ABC affiliate WXYZ. "I am having a hard time keeping it in. I am just so excited."

The 65-year-old intends to keep doing good deeds as she is set to offer rides to her co-workers who need them.

The original bag of money was returned to the rightful owners, who were a couple of young newlyweds.

This shows that being a good person does have rewards!
