You might think that cats have something of an easy ride, comparatively speaking.
Free as they are from the shackles of crippling debt, existential fears and the heavy burden of responsibility that their human counterparts must reluctantly shoulder, cats essentially slink about the place, languid and impervious to the trials and tribulations of their owners.
In fact, to cast us humans as the owners in the cat/person relationship is somewhat laughable; cats come and go as they please, apparently perfectly capable of fending for themselves, without so much as a backward glance, or a thank you.
Luhu, though, is a cat that proves it isn't all chasing mice and using humans as cushions. Hailing from Beijing, where she lives with her owner Maggie Liu, Luhu has something of a melancholic visage. Her despondent countenance has struck a chord with enamoured Instagram users, meaning that, somewhat inevitably, Luhu now boasts more than 100,000 followers on the image sharing app. Here are some of her best shots.
2. "I'm ready for my close up"
4. When someone asks me to smile for a picture
6. *Watches The Notebook once*
7. When it's Sunday and you remember that tomorrow is Monday
9. When your owner keeps trying to wash you
11. "Not the bag! Not again!"
15. Puss-in-boots reincarnated
Is Luhu the most forlorn cat in the world? Quite possibly, but she also has an awful lot of admirers.
