Now, I don't know about you, but I have a rather complex history with gaming. After having a slew of boyfriends who were pretty much glued to their
and Xbox's, I naturally developed an aversion to the things. I mean, there would be points where I would only get a grunt of acknowledgement when walking through the front door, as they were so transfixed by their animated killing machines. But, if you were to get me a boyfriend who earned a cool $12 million from gaming alone, I would probably have a different attitude towards it.
But irrespective of my
tendencies, this is the reality for one former supermarket worker. Known to his millions of followers as DanTDM, Dan Middleton has been crowned as the richest YouTuber in the world by Forbes after racking up an impressive £12.3 million ($16.6 million).

The
, who once worked at Tesco, has made himself a millionaire simply by filming himself playing online video games. And it's sure to make many a teenage boy angry; I mean, who would have known that you could make yourself an internet sensation
and
earn some serious dollar just by having fun on the internet?
As well as uploading videos of himself playing video games and describing what he's doing, the 26-year-old offers viewers tips on how to progress to higher levels in the game.
Speaking to the Daily Mail about his success, Dan asserted, "
It's something I was just not prepared for at all".

He continued:
"It's something I've slowly been learning about in the past three or four years. In the past five years YouTube has evolved. Being a YouTuber was not a thing before. I know people that make similar content to me who are 30 or 40 years old so I don't think there is an age limit to it at all."
Dan, who hails from Aldershot, England, initially began his YouTube career by filming himself playing Pokemon while he was studying at Northampton University. But now, he mainly focuses on Minecraft, a canonical animated computer game that challenges players to build an entire world out of blocks.
Certainly, he even holds the Guinness World Record for the "most views for a dedicated Minecraft video channel" - yes, that has to be the most esoteric award ever.

Dan is now watched by over 16 million people, and he's able to make such eye-watering amounts of money off the back of YouTube's advertising system - which gives him around 68 per cent of profits.
And luckily for him, he managed to find a partner who is as into gaming as him. Dan married Jemma Middleton back in 2013, and to this day, they still play an awful lot of Minecraft together. Sounds rather dreamy, no?

While the majority of us can't hope to make such insane amounts of money from a mere hobby, Dan's story is certainly inspiring, and should encourage young people everywhere to take a stab at pursuing their dreams.
