Netflix's latest murder mystery starring Nicole Kidman has been branded as "perverted" by the cast.

The 57-year-old Hollywood star features in the riveting drama, The Perfect Stranger, which is based on the 2018 novel by Elin Hilderbrand.

The limited series follows the story of Amelia Sacks (portrayed by Eve Hewson), who is on the brink of marrying into one of Nantucket's richest families, the Winburys, led by the author Greer Garrison Winbury (played by Kidman).

However, the celebrations take a dark turn when a dead body is found on the beach on the morning of the wedding. This leads to a police investigation that unravels terrifying secrets about Greer, her husband Tag (Liev Schreiber), and the rest of the family.

The Big Little Lies actress opened up about the streaming service's new unmissable crime drama during the London premiere.

Kidman told Express that she worked with an "amazing ensemble," adding: “When you talk about acting together ‒ we all worked together to create this."

She continued to express her appreciation for the team, saying: “It’s underrated, I stepped in to be part of an ensemble. And I’m so grateful for everyone who was there working."

Meanwhile, Schreiber shared his thoughts on the spine-tingling murder mystery, noting: "There is a really healthy dose of perversity... Some of the most inappropriate and wonderful choices that I've ever seen a director make."

The Perfect Couple currently has a score of 58 percent on review-aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing.

Critic have shared their mixed reactions, with The Guardian giving it 3 stars, and writing: "It’s almost impossible to resist bingeing the entirety of this classy detective drama set around a posh wedding in Nantucket. It’s a glorious, perfectly paced delight."

Evening Standard gave it a brutal 2 stars and penned that "Nicole Kidman’s lackluster performance and an unsubtle script mean this high production Netflix series fails to make a big splash".

However, some viewers have seemed to enjoy the show as one person commented on X that it is "a well-made murder mystery" adding: "Gives you hints but keeps enough to itself in each ep to hook you."

A second praised: "Just finished watching #ThePerfectCouple on Netflix, and my goodness, what a show! One thing about Nicole Kidman she is going to eat in a limited series."

The TV drama also stars Billy Howle, Dakota Fanning, Meghann Fahy, Ishaan Khattar, Jack Reynor, Sam Nivola, and Isabelle Adjani.

Director Susanne Bier spoke about the genre, revealing that she got "really seduced by the possibility of doing something funny and light but still with a dark undercurrent," as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

Writer Jenna Lamia chimed in that she started writing the script five years ago, "but it wasn't until two years ago that I was lucky enough for Susanne to come on board and she elevates everything she does".

"She walks this incredibly precarious line of the tone which was a lot to ask... but none of that really matters unless you have a cast who can pull it off and this cast is incredible," she added.

The Perfect Couple is available to stream on Netflix now.
