An online fundraiser has been launched following the tragic deaths of two 18-month-old twins in Oklahoma City.
Locklyn and Loreli Callazzo - both aged 18 months - were found by their mother, Jenny Callazzo, at the bottom of the pool on Thursday (March 16) morning.
As per the Daily Mail, Jenny was found by firefighters administering CPR to her children after they fell into the pool around 10:45AM local time.
Jenny resides at the Oklahoma home with her grandmother, six children, and her 42-year-old husband, Sonny.
At 1:00PM, just over two hours after the toddlers were first discovered in the swimming pool, they were sadly pronounced dead.
The Mail reports that a relative of the family informed the publication that Jenny's grandmother, who has Alzheimer's, left a door open, which allowed the toddlers access to the pool.
Police have launched an investigation into the tragic deaths of the twins but added that it appears that there was no foul play.
Neighbors of the family have revealed to the Mail that they saw Jenny understandably distressed on Thursday.
One neighbor told News 4, per the Daily Mail: "It's certainly disturbing. And, you know, my prayers go out to that family because little children are precious.
'They brought out two little children and put them in separate ambulances. And they were doing CPR on both little children. I saw the mother who was distraught, who got in an EMS vehicle."
Injury Prevention Coordinator for Trauma at OU Health Laura Gamino told the Mail: "From Safe Kids Oklahoma City Metro and Oklahoma Children's Hospital, [we're] very, very sorry to hear this. It's just tragic.
"Anything can happen in an instant…Children are attracted to water and toddlers won't have the skills to be able to help themselves get out of water…Drowning is very sudden, and it's very silent.
"Sometimes people have an idea that a child will have trouble in the water and be screaming, but they can't because their mouth is full of water. So it's very silent, and that's one of the scariest things about it."
Gamimo concluded by advising families who own a pool to put up a four-foot fence with a gate to prevent tragic accidents like this from occurring.
A GoFundMe page was set up to support the family after the tragedy, with a statement on the fundraising page reading: "These beautiful babies were taken from us too soon. Anything you can give to help with expenses would be greatly appreciated. We appreciate everyone's love and support."
Over $10,000 of the $5,000 target has been raised by 110 donors at the time of writing.
