Nineteen years ago today the deadliest terrorist attack in human history took place in New York, claiming the lives of 2,977 and inflicting non-fatal injuries on an additional 25,000, the Washington Post reports.

This comes after NBC New York reported that the 9/11 Memorial and Museum will open its doors for the first time in six months today to the families of those who lost their lives.
