Bessie Hendricks, America's oldest person, has died at the age of 115 on Tuesday at the Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City, Iowa.
Hendricks had been the oldest living person in the US and the fourth oldest in the world after reaching the enviable age of 115.
Born on November 7, 1907, Hendricks grew up in rural Iowa and enjoyed a childhood on the farm with her horses before televisions existed.
She married her husband Paul Hendricks in 1930, and the couple shared five children - Shirley, Joan, Roland, Glenda, and Leon.
The pair remained happily married for decades, with Mr Hendricks dying one month shy of their 65th wedding anniversary in 1995.
While most of us could only wish to live into three digits, Hendricks previously revealed the secrets to living such a long and happy life.
Her family previously revealed to local media that Hendricks had sworn by hard work, avoiding stress and doctors, but not missing out on eating sweets - which sounds like a pretty good deal to us.
A care center administrator added on Hendricks' birthday in 2019: "A strong will and love of family keep Bessie going. She appreciates life so much."
Becoming a supercentenarian - reaching over 110 years old - is a rare feat, with only 300 supercentenarians counted across the US according to the 2010 census.
Throughout Hendricks' lifetime, she lived through two World Wars, 21 presidents, the Spanish Influenza, the Great Depression, the roaring '20s, and even the coronavirus pandemic.
A Facebook group had been set up in honor of Hendricks months before her death after she gained quite a following of fans.
One wrote: "Unfortunately some bad news here everyone. Bessie Hendricks passed away yesterday. Sincere condolences to all her family and friends from everyone here at her fan page. Bessie reached an incredible age and was well loved by many. May she rest in peace."
Another added: "Rest in Peace Bessie Hendricks. My deepest condolences and sympathy to all her loved ones. She will be missed by all of us."
She is survived by three of her children, nine grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 42 great-great-grandchildren.
Her death has also meant the title of oldest living person in America has been passed down to Edie Ceccarelli, from California, who is set to turn 115 on February 5.
Our thoughts are with Bessie Hendricks' family at this difficult time.
