A father in Arkansas found himself in hot water over the weekend after reportedly breaching the state's laws regarding body art on a minor, after he pierced his son's ear.
Jeremey Sherland - a father who lives in Tontitown, Arkansas - was arrested by local law enforcement officers on Saturday (April 20), with the whole incident being recorded and uploaded to TikTok by his son.
In the short clip, four police officers were arresting Sherland for piercing his son's left ear - something that was reported to local authorities by a school police officer.
The video has been viewed over 209,000 times and shows officers bursting into Sherland's home and placing him in handcuffs. A woman can be heard shouting in the background: "What are you doing? Why are you in my house?"
According to a Facebook statement from the Tonitown Police Department, they were contacted by a Springdale Police School Officer who had been worried about the welfare of Sherland's son after he told his fellow students at school that his father pierced his ear.
"The juvenile male stated that his dad was drunk and put him in a choke hold and shoved the piercing in his ear," police alleged in their statement.
The police also claimed that officers had initially attempted to investigate the matter but that Sherland had refused to allow officers to enter his home to speak with his son.
Police then reportedly contacted the Washington County Prosecutors Office, where they found that Sherland had violated Arkansas Law and Public Health Welfare Chapter 27 Subchapter 15. This states that: "A person shall not perform body art on a person under sixteen (16) years of age, regardless of parental consent," and that "it is unlawful to perform body art in any unlicensed facility." Breaching this law is a Class D Felony.
The local police then promptly returned to Sherland's home, where they arrested the father on three other charges. These included: endangering the welfare of a minor, refusal to submit to arrest, and obstructing governmental operations, The Independent reported.
In the short clip, a woman is heard confronting the arresting officers. "Piercing his son's ear without a license takes three cops, four cops? Coming into my house without permission, no permission they busted in my front door, this is the boy right here he's got a pierced ear by his dad these cops busted in my door," she says.
Sherland's son is then heard saying from behind the camera: "I wanted my ears pierced."
NBC News has since detailed that Sherland was released on a $1,500 bond that same evening, with his arraignment scheduled for May 22.
