A Black woman has responded after being wrongly accused of child trafficking.
According to ABC News 7, 21-year-old Lakeyjanay Bailey was recently traveling from Denver, Colorado, to Dallas, Texas, along with her four-year-old adoptive younger sister Olivia.
Lakeyjanay is African American, while her sister Olivia is Caucasian; which led to an offensive misunderstanding at the airport.
A concerned commuter alerted the authorities after spotting the two of them traveling together, and when the pair landed at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, police officers were waiting for them inside the gate.
Officers closely questioned Lakejanay, who protested to them that Olvia was her sibling, and cops also spoke with her mom and a social worker to corroborate her claims.
Lakejanay said in a recent interview: "The whole time they were talking with us, people kept staring at us, whispering and stuff.
"If the roles were changed and it was a white person walking off the plane with a Black person, like a Black child, I feel like things would be different."
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Frontier Airlines has confirmed that they requested police to investigate the matter after a passenger on the plane expressed worry regarding a possible human trafficking incident involving a female born in 2001, traveling with a female born in 2017.
According to ABC News 7, the spokesperson stated: "A concern was raised during the flight by another passenger who was sitting near the woman and child and suspected human trafficking.
They continued: "That passenger approached the flight crew with those concerns and subsequently completed a written report during the flight to document her observations.
"The captain was notified and felt an obligation to report the matter. Air travel is one of the most common means [of] human trafficking. Race played no part in the actions of the flight crew who were following established protocols."
However, Bailey was not personally satisfied with this explanation, and she has since confirmed in a statement made to the above news outlet that she and her family intend on taking legal action against Frontier Airlines.
