Bodycam footage has been released of former ER star Vanessa Marquez being shot dead after she pulled a fake gun on police officers.

The incident took place at the 49-year-old's home in Los Angeles, where police had been called to perform a welfare check over concerns about her mental health. The check was requested by Marquez' landlord, leading to South Pasadena police officers, paramedics, and a mental health clinician attending her home.

You can watch some of the footage of the incident featured in the news report below (Warning: Distressing content):

In the bodycam footage, which shows clear signs that Marquez had been hoarding, her home in disarray, the officers move into her bedroom, where her bed is also covered in an assortment of items.

One of the officers says: "Vanessa, uh, you're, uh, everybody's concerned for your safety. They called us and they sent us over to check up on you."

The 49-year-old then tells the officer that she is suffering from seizures. The decision is then made to take the actress, who was described as skeletal, per the Sun, to a mental health facility for her own safety.

In response to this, Marquez says: "I'm not going, I'm not going."

The 49-year-old then reaches for a pair of scissors and then what appears to be a gun, leading to an officer shouting: "Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, s**t, shes' got a gun. She's got a gun. Gun! Gun! Gun!"

In response, Marquez shouts: "Kill me."

The officers then tell the 49-year-old to repeatedly drop the gun, but she refuses. An officer fires eight rounds at her, and she is shot twice. She later died in the hospital.

The clip was made public after an investigation into the actress' death.

Shannon Presby, head deputy district attorney, said in conclusion to the probe: "In this incident, the evidence demonstrates that Carrillo and Perez actually and reasonably believed Marquez posed an imminent threat of great bodily injury or death", leading to a "lawful self-defense" ruling.

Prior to her death, Marquez had posted about wishing to die on social media and wanting to buy an "air" gun that looks like a Glock, per the Sun.

A few minutes before she died, she wrote on Facebook "there shooting cremate me pour ashes over Hollywood sign".
