A Sphynx cat that was tattooed by a jailed criminal gang in Mexico has been rescued and needs a new home.

A hairless kitty - who doesn't have a name yet - was rescued from the Cereso 3 prison in Ciudad Juárez, where it was mistreated at the hands of cruel outlaws, as reported by Reuters.

The adorable Sphynx is believed to be one year old and has tattoos on both sides of its slender abdomen, with one declaring: "Made in Mexico" -  a phrase typically used by Sinaloa Cartel-affiliated street gangs.

The fearless feline was fortunately rescued from the Mexican prison last month during a drug raid and has now been taken in by animal rescuers.

Thankfully, a committee of city officials will now decide on the cat's new home before announcing it at an adoption ceremony on March 1, per The New York Post.

"The cat is very sociable and is in great shape, with no infections," Cesar Rene Diaz, Ciudad Juárez’s ecology director, said, according to the outlet.

Sphynx cats are loveable pets that are known for their warm and caring personality and are often compared to dogs due to their loyal companionship.

The breed is renowned for its bald coat, which could either feel like rubber or velvet depending on the coat texture, and its skin sits looser and forms wrinkles around the face and neck areas.

The feline's lack of fur also shows off its visible bone structure and muscles, which makes them popular pets amongst owners.

According to Diaz, the precious cat can be adopted by someone outside of the country as long as the potential owner's background is looked into and is willing to allow the veterinary to take on the essential supervision it will need.

Despite its unfortunate story, the cat has become a celebrity at the rescue building as many citizens and media reporters come in to just greet and take pictures.

As previously mentioned, the grey sphynx will hopefully be presented to its new family at the beginning of next month.

Let's hope this adorable cat enjoys it's new forever home!
