Christina Applegate recently sent a powerful message about her multiple sclerosis diagnosis during her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.
On November 14, the Dead to Me star received an honor that all TV and movie stars dream of; a prestigious star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The honor comes as no surprise, thanks to Applegate's remarkable roles in movies such as Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, The Big Hit, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, and Crash Pad.
During the ceremony, the 50-year-old star took a moment to proudly show off her nails - which had the letters 'F-U MS' on them in a not-so-subtle message to her recent diagnosis.
Speaking of the art, manicurist Vanessa Sanchez said she and Applegate were "excited" to create this unique look.
"A couple of weeks ago, Christina and I started planning her manicure as she knew the upcoming week would be full of events," Sanchez said. "The week started with [the] induction onto the Hollywood Walk of Fame."
Sanchez revealed that Applegate was allergic to most polish brands, so she used Green Flash LED Polish, a gel replacement by Manucurist Paris.
"When I told her about Green Flash, she was immediately excited to try it because the ingredients are all natural, and she wouldn't have to wait for her polish to dry," Sanchez continued. "Christina told me that she wanted to make a literal statement with her nails and wanted the letters FU MS on her nails.
"We chose to do so in white, so it stood out on top of the moody, rich red colour. We were both thrilled with the way they turned out."
Posting the look to Instagram, the artist also praised Applegate for her strength.
"Christina thank you for letting me be a part if this very special day. You are a fighter and a really strong woman who I am proud to call my friend. And YEA 100% F.U. MS!"
A defiant statement indeed!
Applegate also shared a barefoot photo to Twitter, explaining: "Barefoot. For some with MS the feeling of shoes may hurt or make us feel off balance. So today I was me. Barefoot."
During a recent interview with The New York Times, the 50-year-old actress outlined the details of her diagnosis and how it impacted all aspects of her life.
"Although it’s not like I came on the other side of it, like, ‘Woohoo, I’m totally fine. Acceptance? No. I’m never going to accept this. I’m p***ed," she said.
Despite her illness, Applegate was determined to continue living her life to the fullest and that started off with finishing filming the third and final season of Dead To Me which had to be paused after she initially started getting treatment.
"I had an obligation to Liz and to Linda, to our story," she said, despite show bosses apparently wanting to cease filming.
"If people hate it, if people love it, if all they can concentrate on is, ‘Ooh, look at the cripple,’ that’s not up to me," she said. "But hopefully people can get past it and just enjoy the ride and say goodbye to these two girls."
A huge congratulations to Applegate for her well-deserved Walk of Fame star!
