Disney has provoked controversy this week after employees at one of its resorts reprimanded a woman for breastfeeding her baby.
Laura who asked for her surname to not be used to protect her identity, accused security officers at Disneyland Paris of "berating" her as she fed her tot.
"I had my daughter to my breast with three people around me berating me to stop something I consider a completely natural and normal part of life," she told AFP.
"I felt completely vulnerable, totally intimidated and quite afraid."
Laura added: "I asked what was the reason for this kind of request and they basically said it was for the other guests of the park who are here from other cultures and religions."
The ordeal went viral after an image of the incident was published on Twitter by user @marieastier.
In the snap, two members of the theme park's security team can be seen reprimanding a female tourist and patron; whose faces have been censored to protect their identities.
The Twitter user's caption, which was originally written in French, translates as: "Yesterday your security guards prevented a mother from breastfeeding her two-month-old baby on the grounds that it shocked foreign customers! In France, in July 2021! Obstruction of breastfeeding, where are we?"
@marieastier elaborated on the alleged incident in a follow-up post, which read: "For information, she was Australian, completely shocked, and had a terrible time having security handing over the video she had made of their intervention."
As a result of this, a number of social media users have taken to Twitter to express their outrage over Disney's handling of the situation.
For instance, one person wrote: "Shameful. In France, a mother must be able to feed her baby anywhere. May those who are shocked to stay in their country with their medieval customs."
Another then commented: "As always, women are specialized, even for such a trivial and banal gesture."
French Politician Fiona Lazaar also commented on the picture, stating that she had written a letter to the Disneyland Paris president about the incident.
Since the incident made headlines, Disneyland Paris has addressed the controversy in an official statement shared on Twitter.
A spokesperson wrote: "Disneyland Paris provides mothers with the BABY CARE CENTER with suitable and comfortable equipment such as special breastfeeding seats. [sic]"
