Zuri Craig - who was a finalist on America's Got Talent in 2015 as part of the Craig Lewis band - has died at the age of 44, his family confirmed.
The news was shared by the family on social media, however, no cause of death was disclosed. He died on Friday, October 21.
"It is with profound sadness that we announce the transition of our beloved son, brother and friend, Zuri Craig," the statement on Instagram read. "We thank you in advance for your prayers. Please honor our privacy at this unimaginable time of mourning."
They went on to add that more details will be disclosed in due course.
The post was captioned: "Please keep our family and friends in your prayers. More info forthcoming… 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 #RIPZuriCraig."
Craig was part of the singing duo Craig Lewis Band, with Jeffrey Lewis being the other half of the act. The pair made their debut on the reality show's 10th season in 2015. They wowed the judges with their versions of James Brown's 'This is a Man's World' and Mary J. Blige's 'I'm Goin' Down,' but ended up finishing in fifth place, with ventriloquist Paul Zerdin taking the crown.
The musician also appeared in a few Tyler Perry movies including Madea's Big Happy Family, A Madea Christmas, and Madea Gets a Job. Craig had been working recently on a web series titled Black Hollywood Atlanta, which had put out a casting call last year in July.
Needless to say, people have being taking to social media to mourn the loss of an immense talent upon hearing the tragic news.
One person wrote: "Omg this is soooooo sad!!!!! RIP Zuri Craig!! He was my favorite from the play!! His voice was beautiful!!!"
Another added: "RIP #ZuriCraig thank you for giving me confidence in my voice. Thank you for the many opportunities and thank you for being a friend. Wow 💔."
A third penned: "As a Tyler Perry play fan it saddens me to say that Zuri Craig has passed away. Rest in peace Zuri!"
A forth commented: "Wait a minute! Zuri Craig, who used to sing his ass off in a few Madea plays, died?!"
A final fan wrote: "RIP Zuri Craig. Such a beautiful voice he had, he was actually one of my favorite actors on Madea’s Big Happy Family Play. He will be dearly missed."
