His sister, Sonya Singh, confirmed his passing to NBC News, revealing that the beloved comedian died in his sleep at his home in Pleasanton, California.

The tragic discovery was made by his mother, who lived with him and found him unresponsive on Wednesday morning.

"My mom — she lives with him — tried to wake him up, and he didn't wake up," Sonya Singh shared.

While the cause of death has not yet been determined, Singh had a history of congenital heart disease and had undergone two surgeries for the condition earlier in his life.

Singh, born in Portland, Oregon, was the youngest of three siblings. He was set to celebrate his 40th birthday on December 30, a milestone his family had already begun planning.

The comedian notably rose to national fame in 2021 during his run on the hit NBC reality compeition America’s Got Talent.

In his audition, he wowed judges and audiences with his sharp wit and hilarious takes on topics like serial killer documentaries and the frustration of remembering passwords. All four judges — Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum, and Howie Mandel — gave him an enthusiastic “yes,” advancing him in the competition.

Singh made it all the way to the semifinals before being eliminated.

"I want to be the first stand-up comedian to win this, and I'd be the happiest guy in the world," Singh said before his audition.

In a statement to NBC News, AGT remembered Singh as "a talented comedian" whose humor left a lasting impact. “He brought joy and laughter to so many, and his incredible talent will be missed,” the show’s producers wrote.

Beyond AGT, Singh made waves in the comedy world through appearances on Comedy Central’s Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand Up Revolution and his work on the hit animated series Family Guy. Known for his generosity within the comedy community, Singh was admired for helping other comedians find opportunities to perform.

"He was very well loved in the comedy community," Sonya Singh said. "He helped a lot of people and he put a lot of people on stage and loved working in that field."

Singh's final stand-up set took place in early November at the Deaf Puppy Comedy Club in Manteca, California, where he was a regular. The club paid tribute to Singh on Instagram, describing him as "one of the best" and a transformative figure in the local comedy scene.

"He absolutely destroyed every time he performed," the Deaf Puppy Comedy Club’s tribute noted. "You lifted up the 209 comedy scene when there was none, and will always be our Champion. Incredible comedian and human being. You will be missed Kabir. Luv ya, buddy."

Kabir Singh leaves behind a legacy of joy and a reminder of how humor can connect us all.

Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and fans at this heartbreaking time.
