According to BBC News, the 63-year-old musician was fatally injured when a van she was traveling in overturned early Saturday (March 1) morning after a performance.

Hip-hop artist Guy Todd Williams - better known as Rahiem from Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five -claimed that there were about nine other passengers in the vehicle.

Stone was the only fatality in the accident.

The 'Brotha' vocalist's daughter, Diamond Stone, confirmed the devastating news with an emotional message on Facebook, which read: "My mommy is gone."

She also expressed her heartbreak, writing that she felt "numb," and thanked everyone "for the outpouring of love".

A spokesperson for the Grammy-nominated singer told the publication that Stone’s family had traveled to Montgomery, Alabama, and planned to release more details soon.

Stone’s impact on music stretched across decades, shaping both hip-hop and R&B.

She first rose to fame in the 1970s as part of the trailblazing female hip-hop trio The Sequence. Their biggest hit, 'Funk You Up,' became a cultural anthem, climbing to Number 15 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart.

Stone later made a seamless transition into R&B, delivering unforgettable tracks like 'No More Rain (In This Cloud)' and 'Wish I Didn't Miss You.' With three Grammy nominations, she solidified her place as an industry icon.

"She left her indelible mark on the music industry initially as a member of the legendary rap group Sequence," Williams said in a statement.

In addition to her musical achievements, Stone also found success on the big screen. She made her film debut in the 2002 comedy The Hot Chick, starring Rob Schneider, Rachel McAdams, and Anna Faris.

A year later, she appeared in The Fighting Temptations, alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beyoncé.

Jennifer Hudson expressed her disbelief on X (formerly Twitter), penning: "I can’t believe this! What a loss !!! Angie Stone was a true pioneer. Another one of our great soul singers gone too soon. Prayers up for her family and loved ones!"

Bernice King, daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., also honored Stone, sharing: "So heartbreaking. Rest well, soul sister."

Defected Records paid tribute to Stone’s genre-defying career, posting: "Rest In Peace, Angie Stone. A legendary voice of house, soul & disco, gone far too soon. Her music transcended genres and ALWAYS made people dance. Our thoughts are with her family & friends."
