As Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson continue their globe-trotting press tour for The Naked Gun reboot, their off-screen chemistry has been stealing the spotlight and leaving everyone wondering.
While promoting the slapstick comedy revival, Anderson and Neeson have drawn just as much attention for their flirtatious red carpet interactions as for the film itself.
Their undeniable rapport has fueled speculation that their on-screen romance (Neeson plays bumbling detective Frank Drebin opposite Anderson’s sultry nightclub singer Beth) may be spilling into real life.
Neither has denied the buzz. In fact, the pair only seemed to fan the flames further at the New York premiere outside the SVA Theatre, where they appeared inseparable. Anderson leaned in close and shot playful glances Neeson’s way, a now-familiar dynamic seen throughout the promotional campaign.
But is this budding romance real, or just good PR? According to body language expert Judi James, it might be more performance than passion. Speaking to MailOnline, she said there’s clearly “some chemistry,” visible in their mutual eye contact and softened facial expressions. However, she also noted signs of restraint.
“There’s mutual respect,” James said, “but their interactions often appear more polite than sensual. Most of the poses are likely driven by photographers’ requests. When their children are present, the flirtation disappears.”
James even compared their behavior to that of The Naked Gun 33⅓ co-stars Leslie Nielsen and Priscilla Presley, who also played up a romantic dynamic to promote their 1994 film.
“Liam and Pamela’s body language seems like a deliberate nod to the original,” James explained. “From Pamela placing her hand on Liam’s chest (a typical gesture of possession) to her glancing at the camera while he mimics Nielsen’s classic ‘hard stare,’ it all feels like an intentional throwback.”
Despite their close proximity and shared smiles, James noted that their physical contact remained “utterly polite,” with torsos often kept apart, a sign that the flirtation may be more calculated than candid.
Still, fans are rooting for the connection to be real. The duo look great together, and their mutual admiration is genuine. During an appearance on Loose Women, Anderson credited their natural chemistry with helping ease her nerves on set.
“I felt insecure at first, but once the butterflies went away, we just clicked,” she said. Asked whether they bonded off-camera, she replied: “We spent so much time together, a kind of natural chemistry happens. I don’t know if it always does, but we were lucky.”
That bond extended to the kitchen, too. Neeson, a longtime fan of Anderson’s home-baked sourdough, praised her culinary talents. “Pamela’s a fantastic cook,” he told Loose Women. “She made me sourdough bread that was stunning.”
As The Naked Gun reboot gears up for its August 1 release, the question remains: is this the start of a real-life romance or just expert marketing?
For Neeson, a real relationship would mark his first public romance since the tragic loss of his wife, actress Natasha Richardson, in 2009. Whether art is imitating life (or vice versa), fans will be watching closely.
