A nine-year-old boy has become the youngest person to die after being crushed in the deadly crowd surge at Travis Scott's Astroworld festival.
According to the family's attorney, Ben Crump, young Ezra Blount from Dallas succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, November 14, at Texas children's hospital in Houston - taking the concert's death toll to 10, The Guardian reports.
Per the Independent, Crump said in a statement: "The Blount family tonight is grieving the incomprehensible loss of their precious young son.
"This should not have been the outcome of taking their son to a concert, what should have been a joyful celebration. Ezra’s death is absolutely heartbreaking.
"We are committed to seeking answers and justice for the Blount family. But tonight we stand in solidarity with the family, in grief, and in prayer."
According to the outlet, Ezra had fallen from his father Treston's shoulders when the man was rendered unconscious due to increasing pressure from the crowd at the November 5 festival. After the young boy fell, he was trampled on by other festival-goers.
The youngster was later placed in a medically induced coma - but sadly died over a week later.
The nine-year-old's family has filed a lawsuit against Scott and the festival's organizer, Live Nation and are seeking at least $1 million in damages.
As per the suit, Ezra sustained serious damage to his brain, kidney, and liver after being "kicked, stepped on and trampled, and nearly crushed to death".
So far, 10 people have died from the crush that occurred on the opening night of the 30-year-old rapper's Astroworld festival - and hundreds of other fans were injured.
Approximately 50,000 fans were at the concert when a section of the crowd started rushing towards the stage during Scott's performance.
Fans affected by the crowd surge struggled to breathe, with some passing out, and, as a result, were trampled on by other members of the audience.
The nine other people who tragically lost their lives at the concert are between the ages of 14 and 27: Mirza Baig, 27, Rodolfo Peña, 23, Madison Dubiski, 23, Bharti Shahani, 22, Franco Patino, 21, Axel Acosta Avila, 21, Jacob Jurinek, 20, Brianna Rodriguez, 16, and John Hilgert, 14.
Our thoughts are with the victims' loved ones at this difficult time.
