Guava Shuishui, the Taiwanese beauty influencer better known as Guava Beauty, has died aged 24.
The news was shared with her 12,000-plus Instagram followers in a heartfelt statement on May 24, per PEOPLE.
The announcement explained that Shuishui died following a “sudden illness.” A translated caption read: “Although this trip came suddenly, Shuishui held on to every difficult moment just like she has always been – hard-working, serious, and shining.”
Guava Shuishui rose to fame for her creative and controversial content where she merged beauty tutorials with food-style videos, including tasting the very makeup she reviewed.
Her videos often showed her biting into products like lipstick, blush, cotton pads, and even face masks. She described her content as “controversial” and specifically stated that it wasn’t meant for kids under six.
Despite the buzz around her unique approach, some followers voiced concern.
In the comments of one viral video where she scooped jelly blush with a fork and ate it, one user warned: “It’s still toxic, be careful.”
Another pleaded: “Please can you stop this behavior... You can eat in private, you can eat whatever you like. Really don't promote the act of 'eating makeup.'”
Shuishui’s popularity was largely driven by her mukbang-style content, a genre where influencers film themselves eating - often excessively - while interacting with fans.
However, the trend has faced increasing backlash for encouraging unhealthy behaviors and, in some cases, being linked to deaths of young influencers in recent years.
Just days before her death was publicly announced, a friend took to Instagram to address “so much false information” circulating online, as reported by the Daily Mail.
In a translated caption, she clarified that Shuishui’s doctors had “clearly ruled out any possibility related to the so-called 'food cosmetics.’” The friend also emphasized that Shuishui “always publicly stressed” that eating makeup is “forbidden.”
“She is responsible to the audience and is very cautious about the content. In response to the ongoing personal attacks, lies, and even malicious mockery,” the post continued.
“These comments have caused tremendous emotional stress and harm to her family and our close friends. Family and friends have suffered more pain and shock than imagined during this time, and we ask everyone to stop all malicious speculation and stigma.”

The original Instagram statement announcing her passing also shared a final message of gratitude: “Thank you to everyone who has liked, commented, and laughed with her, and thank you for your love and support. She really keeps it in her heart and cherishes it very much.”
The statement ended with a poetic farewell: “Guava Shuishui just changed places and continued to shine.”
And poignantly added: “Guava Shuishui simply continues to glow in a different place. When we meet again one day, she should be unboxing angels' exclusive makeup for eating broadcasts over.”
Her profile bio was later updated to read: “Logging out from the world. Setting off on a new journey. All business collaborations are suspended.”
