John Savident, renowned for his portrayal of Fred Elliott in Coronation Street, has passed away at the age of 86.

The legendary actor, best known for his iconic role as the local butcher in the popular ITV soap opera, captivated audiences with his commanding presence and booming voice.

In a statement to the PA news agency, Savident's agent expressed sorrow over his passing, stating, "We are sad to announce the death of the actor John Savident who died on Wednesday. He was a much-loved husband and father of two and will be sorely missed by all who knew him."

Savident graced the screens of Coronation Street in 1994, swiftly winning the hearts of viewers with his larger-than-life personality and unmistakable vocal resonance.
