McGregor, who hasn’t fought since his July 2021 loss to Dustin Poirier, has developed a reputation for posting controversial rants on social media, only to quietly delete them hours later. That pattern repeated this week after an ill-judged remark aimed at Cunningham backfired spectacularly.

The exchange began when Cunningham, best known for his role as Davos Seaworth on the HBO fantasy series, posted in support of a Gaza-bound aid flotilla that was intercepted by Israeli forces. The actor criticized the seizure of the vessel, which had been carrying humanitarian supplies for Palestinians.

McGregor, who has recently dabbled in political commentary and even hinted at a future run for Irish president, decided to weigh in with a sarcastic jab.

In a now-deleted post, he replied to Cunningham: "I thought you were on the boat Liamo, what happened? You forgot your sea goggles? You get sea sick off the gargle? Bottler."

But the actor wasn’t having it. Cunningham hit back with a cutting response that quickly went viral: "Didn’t know you could read and write Conor. Thought you used your hands to tap out."

His reply referenced McGregor’s infamous 2018 submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229, a highly publicized bout that ended with the Irish fighter tapping out in the fourth round after a heated build-up.

Since then, McGregor’s fighting career has been turbulent. He scored a quick victory over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in 2020 but suffered two subsequent losses to Poirier, including a broken leg in their final clash.

While McGregor’s forays into politics and social commentary continue to stir attention, this latest social media moment proved that not all of his jabs land, especially when aimed at someone as sharp-witted as Ser Davos.
