McGregor passed away peacefully on June 18 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, Canada, after receiving treatment for an illness. Her death comes only weeks after Joe Monteith died on May 12 at the age of 75, following care at a palliative facility in Oromocto, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The near back-to-back deaths of Monteith’s parents mark another difficult chapter in the legacy of the beloved actor, who died in 2013 at age 31 from an accidental overdose involving heroin and alcohol, per The Sun.
Monteith rose to fame playing Finn Hudson on Glee, the hit musical series that aired from 2009 to 2015. Following his unexpected death, the show halted production and later aired a tribute episode titled 'The Quarterback', mourning both the character and the actor who played him.
McGregor had a close and affectionate relationship with her son. In a 2018 interview with PEOPLE, she shared how deeply his loss affected her. “Everything stopped. I’m not the same person anymore,” she said. “We were incredibly close. He was kind, charming, and so full of life, even as a little boy, he could light up a room.”

While Cory and his father had been estranged for many years, they briefly reconnected in 2009.
Monteith later spoke about the reunion in an interview with Parade, recalling that his father had reached out via Facebook and that they eventually met in person. “He greeted me at the airport. It was a good time,” Cory said.
The passing of both parents within such a short span serves as a poignant reminder of the personal losses behind Monteith’s public story, a talented life gone too soon, and the family who continued to carry that grief long after.
