Following the release of Chris Rock's newest comedy special on Netflix, some viewers believe he has gone "too far" with some of his gags.

Over the weekend, Netflix aired the live release of the 58-year-old's newest stand-up, Selective Outrage.

At the start of the special, Rock tells the live crowd: "Imma try to do a show tonight without offending nobody. I'm gonna try my best. You know why? Because you never know who might get triggered. That's right, you say the wrong thing... mother******s get scared.

"Gotta watch out. You know what people say: Words hurt."

However, it looks like Rock definitely failed in his mission, as there were many viewers who felt like Rock crossed the line when it came to two people: Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Now, as I'm sure you all remember, Rock and Will hit headlines all over the world last year after Chris Rock was asked to present an award at the 2022 Academy Awards. While on the stage, he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head, quipping: "Jada, I love ya! G.I. Jane 2 - can't wait to see it."

Check out the infamous moment below:

After seeing his wife's reaction to the gag, the Men in Black star stormed the stage and slapped Rock across the face.

When the dust had finally settled, Smith was handed a 10-year ban from the Oscars, but would later issue an apology to Rock, saying: "I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong."

But it looks like Rock is not one to let bygones be bygones, as both Will and Jada became the subjects of scathing jokes towards the end of his Netflix show.

"Y’all know what happened to me," Rock tells the audience. "I got smacked at the f***ing Oscars by this motherf****r. A lot of people are like, did it hurt? It still hurts! I got 'Summertime' ringing in my ears."

after telling the crowd he was "not a victim", the comedian then told the audience that "everybody knows what the f**k happened" and that he "had nothing to do with that".

"For people that don’t know, well everybody knows, but Will Smith’s wife was f***ing her son’s friend. Okay? I normally would not talk about this s**t, but, for some reason, they put it on the internet."

Rock was, of course, referencing the 2020 episode of Red Table Talk when Jada and Will discussed her "entanglement" with rapper August Alsina.

"I have no idea why two talented people would do something like that," he joked. "We’ve all been cheated on, everyone in here has been cheated on. None of us have ever been interviewed by the person who cheated on us on television. None of us are like, hey, I was sucking somebody else’s d***. How did that make you feel?"

Rock would then tell the crowd: "She hurt him way more than he hurt me. Everybody in the world was calling him a b***h, and I tried to call him up and he didn’t pick up the phone to me. Everybody was calling him a b***h, everybody, everybody, and he slaps me? That is some b***h a** s**t."

But despite the audience laughing, Rock's brutal comments about the Smiths' relationship haven't gone down well with viewers on social media, with some people saying the "disgusting" jokes went "too far".

One Twitter user wrote: "Y’all gave Will Smith hell for slapping a man who publicly disrespected his wife. That man has now went on to amplify his disrespect, humiliation, and disparagement of Jada.

"I’m not even a Will and Jada fan like that but Chris Rock’s performance was disgusting."

Sharing a clip of the show, a second viewer said: "Chris Rock went a bit too far. This is venting, not joking."

A third viewer tweeted: "What’s happening to comedy!!!! [It’s] becoming increasingly apparent that it’s no longer funny, disgusting show by Chris Rock."

Meanwhile, a fourth said: "Chris Rock has been obsessed with Jada all of his career. [I don't know] what she ever did to him for him to be so bitter like dude let it go. Is like watching Piers Morgan obsess over Megan Markle."

This was echoed by another Twitter user, who wrote: "Chris Rock is obsessed with Jada and she literally was just there while he joked about her hair loss. She just didn’t enjoy the joke. Like….. why does she deserve to be attacked??"

However, there were also plenty of viewers who believed that Rock's jokes were fair game and that Will and Jada "deserved it" following the Oscars controversy.

"He was publicly assaulted by Will Smith and then Will received his reward/award for the night and went partying it up. Chris is right," one viewer tweeted. "Will Smith practices selective outrage. Go cry around the red table Will! He deserves every bit of Chris Rock’s scorn. His wife too!!"

"I don’t see any problem here. Chris Rock is funny and Will Smith deserves it," another added.
