Foo Fighters have canceled all of their upcoming tour dates after the sudden passing of the group's drummer, Taylor Hawkins.
Last Friday (March 25), the band announced in a statement that its longtime drummer had died at the age of 50.
Foo Fighters were in the middle of a tour in South America and were set to perform at Festival Estéreo Picnic in Bogotá, Colombia, at the time of Hawkins' death.
Now Foo Fighters have announced in a new statement shared to their official Twitter account that the upcoming tour will be canceled entirely.
The band wrote: "It is with great sadness that Foo Fighters confirm the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates in light of the staggering loss of our brother Taylor Hawkins.
"We’re sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won’t be seeing one another as planned. Instead, let’s take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we’ve made together."
It goes without saying that fans were sympathetic to the remaining bandmates' decision to cancel the tour.
One fan responded to the post: "We all love you guys. Take your time, grieve, and heal. If this ends up being it, it was a hell of a run. If you decide to come back, we will support that as well. Your mental and emotional health is far more important than performing."
Another said: "Totally understandable. You guys need to put yourselves first and give yourselves as much time as you need to grieve. Taylor is a huge loss to all of us but you guys must be heartbroken. Thoughts and love to you all and Taylor - thanks for the memories, you were a one off."
A third wrote: "Take time to heal. Smile at the memories. Listen to your favorite songs. This is the right move to cancel the tour. We will be here when you are ready."
Per Rolling Stone, the municipal government in Bogotá, Colombia, where the drummer died, released a statement confirming that the city's emergency services had been made aware of a man suffering "chest pain."
After medics arrived on the scene, they carried out "resuscitation maneuvers" on Hawkins, but he was ultimately pronounced dead. His cause of death is yet to be determined.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General of Colombia said at least 10 substances were found in Hawkins's system, including antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and opioids.
