Julia Fox has opened up about her evolving understanding of her sexuality, offering a candid reflection on how she now defines her identity.
The Uncut Gems star, who rose to international fame after her breakout performance in the 2019 film, revealed in a new interview with Allure that she identifies as pansexual. While Fox had previously hinted at her interest in women (sparking speculation after remarks made last year) she has now clarified her stance more openly.
"I'm pansexual; I could be attracted to anyone and anything," she explained. "If it were just down to the physical, I'm more attracted to the female body. Men don't do it for me at all physically, but I can be attracted to a man's mind. I'm a vibes person."
Fox admitted that she has had crushes on women and even shared intimate experiences, though she has never pursued a long-term relationship with another woman. Still, her perspective on relationships (especially with men) has shifted dramatically in recent years. “I don’t feel the need to entertain men anymore,” she said. “The way my life is, I can't see why a man would be beneficial. I'm laser-focused on being a good mom, on being a good provider, on making my dreams come true.”
The actress and fashion figure, who co-parents her four-year-old son Valentino with ex-husband Peter Artemiev, emphasized that her time is too valuable to spend waiting for validation from men. “There’s just so much more you can do with your time than waiting around to see if a guy’s going to text you back or not,” she noted.
Fox’s remarks also touched on how societal pressures contributed to her later realization about her identity. “I think women have a harder time realizing they’re queer because we are so programmed to perform for men,” she said. Looking back, she recognized that some of her close female friendships had taken on deeper dynamics that she now sees differently. “I’m like, ‘Oh my God, we were in a relationship.’ But there was no way I was going to admit that to myself, and I couldn’t, because so much of my survival was hinged upon men taking care of me.”
Now 35, Fox says she no longer feels tied to that expectation. Known for her unapologetic fashion statements and outspoken views, she is embracing independence and authenticity. She also revealed in May 2024 that she has been celibate for more than two years, focusing instead on parenting, career, and personal growth, per The Independent.
When asked whether she misses men, her answer was blunt: “No. Not at all.”
Fox, who briefly dated Kanye “Ye” West in early 2022, has since forged her own path both creatively and personally. From acting and writing to launching her fashion-focused show OMG Fashun, she has been steadily carving out a space in which she sets her own rules.
For Fox, pansexuality isn’t just about attraction; it’s about freedom from the roles and performances she once felt obligated to maintain. And in her words, it all comes down to energy: “I’m a vibes person.”
