Meghan Trainor has once again left fans doing a double-take after stepping out with a striking new look – and she’s making it clear that the critics don’t faze her.
The 31-year-old singer appeared almost unrecognisable on Wednesday night as she walked the blue carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of The Paper, the much-anticipated spin-off of The Office, which lands on BINGE this September.
Wearing a plunging black top paired with silky white shorts, Trainor turned heads as she posed confidently alongside her husband, Spy Kids star Daryl Sabara, who was spotted planting kisses on her cheek. With her blonde hair styled in a messy-chic bun, the pop star’s slimmed-down appearance had fans buzzing online, with many pointing out just how different she looks compared to her early career days.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Trainor’s transformation has caught attention in recent weeks. Just last week, she shocked fans after posting a TikTok of herself attempting the viral “stiletto challenge”, a trend made popular by Nicki Minaj where participants balance one foot on random objects while crossing their legs. Trainor, dressed in workout gear, took it up a notch by balancing on two heavy dumbbells.
She switched off the comments on her TikTok, but fans quickly took the conversation elsewhere. “THAT’S Meghan Trainor?” one person tweeted, while another joked: “Guess she’s not all about that bass anymore,” referencing her 2014 body-positive anthem. Others even compared her new look to pop star Ariana Grande.
But Trainor didn’t let the chatter pass without a response. Instead, she leaned into it, posting another TikTok where she confidently lip-synched to Megan Thee Stallion’s track 'Her', mouthing the words: “I don’t care if these b****es don’t like me. Cause, like, I’m pretty as f**k. Just the other day, I heard a h** say. Matter of fact, what could h** say with a face like this and a b***h bad? Sh*t.”
The Made You Look singer has been open about her health and body journey. In 2022, she revealed she lost 27kg after struggling both physically and mentally following the birth of her first son, Riley, via C-section in 2021. “I was, like, over 200 pounds [90kg] when I C-sectioned him out,” she told ET Canada. “I was in a really dark place and I wanted to be in a great place for my son.”
Since then, Trainor has credited “science” and learning how to work with her body (rather than against it) as the key to her transformation. Speaking on a red carpet earlier this year, she explained: “I was working out so incorrectly for so long. I was running and doing cardio and my body was inflamed. Now I know the tricks, and science is the secret.”
She’s also been candid about cosmetic enhancements, telling PEOPLE in January that she underwent a breast augmentation to finally have the “cutie boobies” she had always dreamed of. “It’s made me feel so much more confident,” she said. “Every time I shower, I smile.”
From body positivity anthems to body “biohacking,” Trainor has never shied away from being upfront about her journey and if her latest red carpet appearance proves anything, it’s that she’s embracing her evolution on her own terms.
