Natalie Portman has quietly settled her divorce from her husband Benjamin Millepied.

The 42-year-old Marvel star married the 46-year-old director/choreographer back in 2012 after originally meeting three years prior on the set of Portman's hit movie Black Swan.

Since then, the couple went on to welcome two children together - 12-year-old son Aleph and seven-year-old daughter Amalia - and their relationship had been kept relatively private despite both Portman and Millepied working in the entertainment industry.

However, PEOPLE reports that the couple separated last spring, with Portman officially filing for divorce back in July.

Their separation has been marred by reports that Millepied had cheated on the Star Wars actor - but neither party commented on the headlines. In fact, it had been reported at the time that the couple were staying together.

But now PEOPLe has confirmed that their divorce was quietly finalized last month in France, where both stars live with their children. The news was confirmed by a representative for Portman.

A friend of the couple also told the publication: "It was initially really tough for her, but her friends rallied around her and helped get her through the worst of it. Natalie is coming out of a really tough and painful year but she's come out the other side of it stronger and is finding joy in her family, friends and work."

The source also confirmed that Portman is now focusing on her children, adding that her "biggest priority has been ensuring a smooth transition for her children".

Back in February, Portman took part in an interview with Vanity Fair, where she was asked about her relationship suddenly being thrust into the public eye and written about, to which she said: "It’s terrible, and I have no desire to contribute to it." Elsewhere in the interview, she confirmed that she had been splitting her time between her home in France and Los Angeles.

"I lead a very non-Hollywood life in LA," she said. "I live on the east side. I have some friends who are in the entertainment industry, but many friends who are not, and we don't do industry things when we hang out. We're not going to Hollywood parties, we're having dinners at home in the backyard."

Back in 2018, Portman spoke about meeting Millepied on the set of the 2010 thriller, telling SiriusXM: "I met my husband on [the set of Black Swan], so I think I was in, like, dreamland.

"It seemed pretty fun the whole time. We had a whole, like, he was teaching me to dance."

Portman added: "It was definitely exciting and fun. It was beautiful. I don't know about instant. It was like I really got to know him and that was when it seemed like, 'Oh, right, this is the person.'"

Following the movie's release, Portman would go on to with the Oscar for Best Actress at the 2011 awards ceremony. While accepting her Academy Award, she delivered a message to Millepied, saying: "My beautiful love, Benjamin Millepied, who choreographed the film and has now given me my most important role of my life."
