The actor - perhaps best known for his role in the beloved TV drama One Tree Hill - died on Friday (November 15), his representatives at STW Talent Agency confirmed.
Per Entertainment Weekly, his reps wrote: "His exceptional talent and kind spirit touched the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. The void he leaves behind will be deeply felt."
Teal's partner, Emilia Torello, also shared a heartfelt tribute, describing Paul as her soulmate and the love of her life.
"Paul, you were my soulmate, my soon-to-be-husband, my rock, and my future," she wrote on Instagram. "You filled my lungs with laughter, my stomach with butterflies, and my heart with love.
"You were taken too soon, in a battle that you fought bravely without fail. While a part of me died with you, I promise to fight to find joy in life as hard as you fought to live every single day."
Teal passed away following a battle with cancer, it has been confirmed.
Born and raised in the Wilmington, N.C., area, Teal was a vibrant part of the local theater scene before making his mark on television. He dazzled audiences in productions like The Producers, Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, earning accolades and admiration for his dynamic performances.
Fans will fondly remember teal for his role as Josh Avery in One Tree Hill. His character, a closeted actor navigating the choppy waters of success and secrecy, became a standout in the show's seventh season, appearing in seven episodes.
Beyond One Tree Hill, Paul's talents shone in projects like Descendants: Rise of Red, Deep Water, Outer Banks, and The Staircase. Each role showcased his ability to bring depth and nuance to diverse characters.
Bethany Joy Lenz, a co-star from One Tree Hill, reminisced about directing Teal, noting his unique ability to bring life to his roles. "With his self-effacing sense of humor and willingness to dive fully into any character, Paul was perfect for the part," she shared. "He was a joy to work with in any environment and so generous."
Lenz also recalled working with Teal in the musical production of The Notebook in 2006, where he played Noah. "He was shy and funny and so comfortable on stage. Wow. Like his second skin. You couldn't take your eyes off him," she expressed.
"Paul, your time here was like a summer romance for all of us who knew you, especially if only for a season. Bursting, exciting, deeply moving, and unforgettable" Lenz added. "I’ll miss you, Paul. Thank you for sharing your light with us."
