It turns out that the Oscars aren't just for human beings, as Messi - the dog who stole the show in Anatomy of a Fall - has taken his seat for the big night.

Anatomy of a Fall is a movie that divides opinion, as some see it for the masterpiece that it is while others might struggle with the courtroom-based drama of it all.

The movie follows Sandra Voyter (played by Sandra Hüller) who stands accused of murdering her husband by pushing him out of the window of her home.

The film is less of a murder mystery and more of a look into the legal system in France, where the movie is set, and also the toll that such a case takes on the family. Check out the trailer for Anatomy of a Fall below:

At one pivotal moment in the movie, Daniel (Voyter's son) forces the family dog to consume some aspirin to test his own theory about the death of his father.

To spare you the details in case you want to watch the movie after this, the dog, a border collie whose real name is Messi, puts in a truly Oscar-worthy performance.

He is ever-present throughout Anatomy of a Fall and while he captures attention purely for being adorable, he captures the innocence that surrounds this tragic case that engulfs the family.

If you've seen the movie and he was your favorite character - then you'll be thrilled to know that he actually is at the Oscars this year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, at the annual lunch before the prestigious ceremony, Messi stole the attention, including that of Ryan Gosling and Billie Eilish.

"The big moment was with Billie Eilish, who bonded with Messi for almost 10 minutes," Messi's trainer Laura Martin told the outlet. "They were hugging and petting and they really had a vibe. Then Bradley Cooper bumped into him in the hallway. The dog went right to him, so they also had a connection."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, some teams behind other films weren't happy that Messi attended the lunch because they believed he was giving Anatomy of a Fall an unfair advantage because of the attention he was stealing.

So much so, that it was believed a couple of days ago that he would remain home in France... but it turns out that he is seated inside the Dolby Theater.

Fans have been quick to offer their thoughts on social media, with one person stating: "Glad Messi got to attend and be immortalized. You don't train, win an award for your performance, and not show up when your film is nominated."

Another said: "Glad they invited him - but hopefully he’ll get some breaks during it because of the crowd noise and stuff."

While a third added: "Someone give this good boy a treat."

Here's hoping that Anatomy of a Fall bags an award so we can get to see Messi on stage.
