Sean Penn's recent appearance on Fox News kicked off in a bizarre way on Tuesday.
The Academy Award-winning actor was set to appear on the Hannity show in order to discuss his coverage of the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
However, when the interview kicked off, the host said to Penn: "I made a phone call to you, I read that you were [in Ukraine], and the story interested me."
Hannity then adds: "If you were on this set - 99/100 times we'd probably be in full disagreement, right?"
To which Penn replied: "No question about that."
Hannity then continued: "So I make the first phone call to you - I don't know if you remember - and I said I'm interested in the work that you're doing and why you were there even before the war started, and this documentary that you're doing. Do you remember what you first said to me?"
"I do," Penn replied, before adding: "I said that I don't trust ya."
Watch the interview below (starts at 07:30):In a rather awkward moment, Hannity then tried to laugh about the comment, asking: "Is there a reason why you didn't trust me?"
But a very serious Penn responded: "Yeah, there's a lot of reasons I don't trust you."
Penn then spoke about trust, explaining that although there are a lot of people in our lives we don't trust, "we’ve gotta get on with life".
"We all talk about how divisive things are, how divided things are here," Penn continued. "But when you step into a country of such incredible unity [like Ukraine], you realize what we’ve all been missing. And I don’t think that I’ve got time to indulge my lack of trust, which becomes a petty thing."

During the interview, Penn and Hannity discussed in-depth the recent reports of atrocities to take place in the in recently liberated towns of Stoyanka, Irpin and Bucha yesterday. They also spoke about Penn's own experiences while in Ukraine.
However, it would seem that not even a mature conversation over important world topics was enough to ease Penn's trust issued with Hannity. Toward the end of the interview, the host asked if he had managed to win back some of his trust, to which, Penn replied: "There’s a lot of physical therapy necessary after a big car accident... You don’t get it all done in a day."
Ouch.
