Sophie Turner has revealed that filming intimate scenes with her former Game of Thrones co-star Kit Harington left her feeling deeply uncomfortable, admitting she was left physically retching when the cameras rolled.

The 29-year-old actress, who grew up in Northampton, shared the revelation during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Turner explained that the awkwardness stemmed from the long-standing sibling-like bond she and Harington built while playing Sansa Stark and Jon Snow across eight seasons of the hit HBO series.

Although their characters were not blood relatives in the show’s lore, the cast and fans alike viewed them as family. For Turner, that perception carried over into real life, making the experience of kissing Harington for her new gothic horror project The Dreadful far from romantic.

The actress, who is also a producer on the film, explained that she had personally reached out to Harington about starring opposite her. She believed he was perfect for the male lead role, but when he accepted, he warned her that the script could create uncomfortable moments. “He messaged me saying, ‘Yeah, I’d love to do this, but it’s going to be really f***ing weird, Soph,’” Turner recalled. It was only when she revisited the script that she understood his hesitation, seeing how many of their scenes involved physical intimacy.

Despite their reservations, the pair decided the project was too compelling to pass up. However, when it came time to film their first on-screen kiss, both struggled to overcome their personal history. “We put it out of our minds, and then we get on set,” Turner told Meyers. “It was the first kissing scene, and we are both retching. Like, really—it was vile. It was the worst.”

The Dreadful, set in the 15th century during the Wars of the Roses, follows Turner’s character Anne and her mother-in-law Morwen (played by Marcia Gay Harden) as their isolated lives are disrupted by the sudden reappearance of a man from their past, portrayed by Harington. The film has not yet received an official release date.

Beyond sharing behind-the-scenes discomfort, Turner also sparked headlines with a separate story during her late-night appearance. She recounted how a seemingly harmless wave at a Hollywood party once caused unintended chaos, claiming she was indirectly responsible for the breakup of a celebrity engagement.

Reflecting on the incident, Turner explained that she had waved casually at an actor her school friend admired. Later that evening, the actor’s fiancée (herself a famous actress) accused Turner of flirting. “She goes, ‘Can you stop f***ing flirting with my fiancé?’” Turner remembered. To her surprise, the couple reportedly ended their engagement that very night. Laughing, Turner admitted: “Turns out, they broke their engagement off that night because of my wave. I didn’t realise I held this power.”

From uncomfortable on-screen kisses to accidentally ending a Hollywood romance, Turner’s candid stories offered fans a glimpse into both the surreal and awkward aspects of life in the spotlight.
