Following the heartbreaking death of TV legend Barbara Walters, several The View co-hosts have paid tribute to the trailblazing broadcaster.

The news was confirmed by her publicist, Cindi Berger, who said in a statement: "Barbara Walters passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones.
"She lived her life with no regrets. She was a trailblazer not only for female journalists, but for all women."

After growing up as the daughter of a booking agent, it wasn't long before Walters found herself rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest names in modern history.

Over her decades-long career, Walters would go on to moderate presidential debates, interview every US president from Richard Nixon to Donald Trump, and scoop a whopping 12 Emmy awards.
And among her many television credits, Walters is also known to many modern audiences for her role as a co-host on the daytime talk show The View. Walters appeared on the panel from 1997 to 2015.

Michelle Collins shared with fans a special tradition for The View hosts, tweeting: "One of the first rites of passage of becoming a host on @TheView was to have lunch with Barbara Walters. Few times in my life have I been that nervous. She was an absolute trailblazer, class, elegance, smarts that are increasingly hard to come by. I'll always be grateful. RIP"
Rosie O'Donnell, who appeared on The View for a brief period in the 00s, shared a picture of the two of them together, with the one-word caption: "Legend."
Star Jones, one of the very first panelists to appear on the talk show, also tweeted out her respects, writing: "I owe Barbara Walters more than I could ever repay. Rest well sister… mother… friend… colleague… mentor."
Debbie Matenopoulos, another veteran of the TV show, also wrote on her Instagram Story: "So so so sad… No words right now.
"Thank you for everything. You single handedly changed my life and the life of every other female journalist by leading the way for us all.
"May you rest in peace and in power and beauty you amazing woman!! I owe you everything as do so many others. You will always be my hero."
"Barbara Walters will always be known as a trail blazer," wrote The View co-host Meghan McCain. She was the ultimate ceiling breaker for women in television for which we all were lucky enough to follow.
"Her creation of The View is something I will always be appreciative of. Rest in peace, you will forever be an icon."
And Elisabeth Hasselbeck also paid her respects to her "mentor and friend" with an Instagram Reel, writing alongside the post: I love you Barbara. GOD is in this story. I have few words tonight- and will be ready to honor you tomorrow Dec 31 at 9am EST (10central) on Fox and friends.
