The partner of an avid gamer has gone viral after issuing a warning about the new Grand Theft Auto game to fellow partners of gamers, uncovering the reason she does not want her fiancée to play it.
In the video posted to social media, which now has over 527 thousand likes, she claimed that one specific new feature means she will not allow her partner to play it.
As seen in media previews of the sixth edition of the hit action game GTA6, it was confirmed that players will have to keep up a relationship between the game's main protagonists, Jason and Lucia, encouraging them to go on dates, text, hold hands, and obviously complete missions together.
Shelby Haas, who goes by the handle @diaryofasalesgirl, is outraged at the new feature, which means players “literally have to maintain a relationship with a girl in the video game and text her and she'll get mad if you don't text her back, and you have to take her on dates."
The new feature is why she said: "In absolutely no human way is my fiancé playing GTA 6.”
It is not the first time the franchise has upset partners and parents of gamers, as people have long been concerned about the violent content and inclusion of strip clubs in gameplay, and it’s highly unlikely that the latest edition will be any more PG.
Since Hass’ stark warning to stressed girlfriends went viral, thousands of people agreed with her concern in the comments section, while others posed rather rude questions about the fragility of her relationship.
One person wrote: "Girl, thank you for putting me on bc absolutely not".
However, another person bluntly hit back with: "it’s just game .. are we that insecure???"
Rockstar, the company that developed the game, defended the new feature and clarified that it is optional.
Rob Nelson, Rockstar North's head of development and co-studio head, told IGN: "I have to say it feels great — if you are into it as a concept. Don’t bother with it if you aren’t. Up to you.”
He also explained: "The narrative is structured in such a way that the circumstances they find themselves in require them to stay together for most of the story and work together. At the very least they will get through most things as partners in crime."
A preview of the game set to be released on November 19 was shown for just six hours on Netflix last week.
According to the streaming platform, the preview, which showed an extremely complex map and a myriad of new features, amassed a staggering 31.1 million views.
